10 community organizations receive grants from Point32Health Foundation

CANTON, MA–Point32Health Foundation today announced 10 new grants to support priorities identified by community. The grants improve access to healthy food and advance healthy aging in places where disinvestment, systemic racism, and barriers to access have prevailed. Grants total $505,000.

“We are committed to food justice and healthy aging. People of all ages should have access to healthy, affordable, culturally appropriate food and the support services they need to thrive,” said Nora Moreno Cargie, president of Point32Health Foundation and vice president of Corporate Citizenship at Point32Health. “We are supporting both long-term initiatives promoting equitable systems and short-term efforts responding to urgent needs.”

Grants support both general operations, giving nonprofit organizations flexibility in allocating resources, and ideas generated by nonprofits to address specific community needs. These funds will go to organizations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Connecticut

City Seed $50,000

• Two-year general operating support grant to City Seed to develop an equitable, local food system that promotes economic growth, community development and sustainable agriculture.

Maine

Cumberland County Food Security Council $60,000

• Two-year general operating support to Cumberland County Food Security Council (CCFSC) to facilitate collaborative effort creating a just, resilient and sustainable food system.

Massachusetts

Conservation Law Foundation $30,000

• One-year grant to Conservation Law Foundation to complete their Healthy Retail and Commerce Fund pilot addressing food access and other community needs.

Massachusetts Food System Collaborative $70,000

• One-year general operating support grant to Massachusetts Food System Collaborative to increase advocacy for an equitable food system in Massachusetts.

Mill City Grows $75,000

• Two-year general operating support grant to Mill City Grows to foster food justice that improves physical health, economic independence and environmental sustainability in Lowell.

Three Sisters Garden Project, Inc. $40,000

• Two-year general operating support grant to Three Sisters Garden Project to increase access to local, healthy food in Essex County.

Thrive Support & Advocacy $15,000

• One-year grant to Thrive Support & Advocacy to develop a specialized food pantry designed to address dietary needs of people with developmental or intellectual disabilities and their families in the Worcester area.

Urban Farming Institute $75,000

• Two-year general operating support grant to Urban Farming Institute to promote urban farming in communities of color and engage community residents in growing food and building a healthy community.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire Hunger Solutions $80,000

• Two-year general operating support grant to New Hampshire Hunger Solutions to promote system changes that improve access to nutritious food and address root causes of hunger in New Hampshire.

Rhode Island

RIALA Senior Living Institute $10,000

• One-year grant to make Rhode Island’s assisted living facilities more welcoming and supportive, especially for older LGBTQIA+ adults.
