Our journey to becoming

As a new foundation, Point32Health Foundation is building on the legacy of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan foundations. We are drawing on our experiences and what we’ve learned to respond to community needs and rise to the challenges of this unique moment. We are questioning assumptions and transforming our thinking to address systemic racism unveiled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adapting to needs, we have expanded our outreach to organizations led by and serving communities of color; reduced reporting requirements to ease administrative burdens on grantees; made it easier for nonprofit organizations to engage with our team; and committed to honoring diverse communities by increasing and modeling inclusive language and behaviors, reducing implicit bias and promoting equity. We are learning through engagement with multi-sector collaborations and sharing our work and that of our grantees through stories on our new website and in our newsletters.  In short, we are becoming.

Becoming is a process, not a destination. Hundreds of community members and leaders have shared insights at listening sessions, in focus groups and in one-on-one conversations that ground our strategic plan in a shared mission.

Throughout this journey of becoming, we have committed to supporting organizations working to advance healthy aging and improve access to affordable, healthy food for the next two years, all while continuing our grantmaking. Grants totaling nearly $8 million went to more than 140 organizations across five states in 2022.

What follows is a reflection on our first year as Point32Health Foundation. It includes grantee stories and photos, and a glimpse into the future. We look forward to sharing more in the coming months.

On behalf of our board of directors and our team, thank you for all the ways you have been there in our journey to becoming a stronger, more relevant Point32Health Foundation.
